Diabetes: A Silent Killer in the African-American Community
Diabetes is one of the top diseases in the African-American community. Approximately 14.7 percent of African-Americans over age 20 have the disease, according to the American Diabetes Association. African-Americans are also 1.6 times to get the disease than whites.

Currently in the U.S. there are 2 million Americans suffering from chlamydia and another 250 thousand more are suffering from gonorrhea.
The In Crowd: Do You Have the Trait?
Sickle cell anemia is a condition that affects African-Americans and others of African descent at an alarmingly high rate. The genetic disorder is caused when red blood cells sickle due to the high predominance of hemoglobin. The prominence of sickle cell related diseases is in large part because they are genetic disorders. This means that the disease or a genetic trait is passed down from generation to generation. Even though sickle cell mainly affects African-Americans here in the United States, it affects Indians, Africans and those living along or around the Mediterranean.
